Goldie's Place - Support Center for the Homeless |
|
|
|
In 1997, Dr. Bjork embarked on a new venture, a
dream if you will. That being to provide free
dental care to some of the homeless of Chicago.
This came to fruition when he begin the Goldie's
Place Dental Program on January 7th of that year.
Goldie's Place, a support center for the
homeless, was to serve as the hub of operation for
this bare bones essential dental care. Dr.
Bjork has had the pleasure of providing dental care,
including dentures, to hundreds of Chicago's
homeless. Now, along with five other volunteer
dentists, the program is starting its 11th year.
In 2006, Dr. Bjork received training and license
in a new and exciting area, that of
Laser Periodontal Therapy. This new and
innovative technique provides new hope in the
treatment of periodontal disease (gum disease).
The
PerioLase, allows, in a non invasive way, for
the removal of diseased tissue without the use of
cutting, sutures, or fear, thereby enhancing the
body's ability to heal. In many cases, a new
attachment of the gum to the tooth is promoted.
Some have said that the
PerioLase will be for dentistry what Lasik was
for eyes. |
